Deadpool (2016) REVIEW

Deadpool (2016)

This film totally blew me away. Going in, it's was hard know what to expect. With a trailer as good as the one that emerged, my biggest fear was that the funniest and most violent bits would be in the trailer.

How wrong I was. Your average superheroes in a film never ever swear, or make bad guys really bleed, even when the shit really does hit the fan. Deadpool is the opposite to that. Ryan Reynolds is at his very best. This film is funny. Really funny. This feels is a whole new side to Marvel too, following in the solid footprints that Ant Man left.

The film breaks the fourth wall speaking to our audience, it's a breathe of fresh air. Morena Baccarin, most known for her role in Homeland, holds her own even against Reynolds. Here she is the opposite of Brody's weak, pushover wife. She is covered in tattoos and works at a strip club. Her chemistry with Reynolds feels authentic. They are a team. So when the film unfolds, or rather goes backwards, we discover how they met, and how Deadpool became the badass he is today.

He leaves his girl after discovering he has terminal cancer. He gives into a mysterious cancer treatment offered to him by a shady guy in a suit. Brit actor Ed Skrein is our villain Ajax here, the man in charge of the experiments tests to Wade to remove the cancer that. come at a price. And soon Wade is unrecognisable... He may be immortal now, but his face (and whole body) looks like'a testicle with teeth' as his best mate Weasel says. Then Deadpool is set on a route of revenge.

I won't' give anymore away. But I will say there is a lot of blood, f-bombs and 90's hip hop. And I wouldn't have wanted it any other way! His side kicks Colousus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead are also great add X Men add ons that we haven't seen before, let's hope we see them again in Deadpool 2! Ajax, our villain, is a still mainly a mystery though, it's hard to figure out why he is so angry and hateful to Deadpool, which of course leaves me wanting to read the comics...

All in all, this film was a whole lot of fun. It will make you have 20 more belly laughs than any other 'comedy' around at the moment. Remember, stay around after the credits! 10/10
