Mad Max:Fury Road (2015)

Mad Max (2015)

Mad Max blew audiences away last year. Some saying it was the best action movie in years, and others saying that it was a pillar for feminism in movies with a badass woman Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron, at the helm, and then the title character Max, portrayed by Tom Hardy, taking a back seat.

This movie felt like an underdog, breaking out into blockbuster land. But with 10 Oscar nominations does it now lose it's alternative and 'dark horse' status? There are nods for best picture, best director, best achievement in cinematography, best achievement in production design, best achievement in costume design, best achievement in film editing, achievement in makeup and hairstyling, achievement in sound editing, achievement in sound mixing, and achievement in visuals.

BUT not for best Actress for Charlize Theron, a huge disappointment, considering the blood sweat and tears she clearly put into this part. Either way, it deserves those nominations.

Fingers crossed they can grab the most coveted award for Best Picture, who knows, the Academy may give us hope that the 'underdog' can make it. Even if the director did direct Happy Feet previously.
