Bad Neighbours 2 (2016) REVIEW
Comedy sequels are always going to be tough. In recent years, we have been let down time and time again, Anchorman 2 anyone?
Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are back as young parents Mac and Kelly, with another baby on the way, they decide it's time to sell up their home. But just when they thought their neighbourhood had calmed down after their previous neighbours, -a ray frathouse, Chloe Grace Moretz and her sorority sisters decide to move in. They bring with them weed, noise and antics not appealing for any potential buyer. Teddy (Zac Efron) a previous occupier of the frat house next door returns, deciding to coach these girls as his life isn't going anywhere, but can he keep up with them?
I actually laughed way more than expected in this film, Rogen, Efron and Byrne are relatable, naturally funny characters. However, this does feel very similar to the first film as expected, it does follow the same beats in more than a few places. There are more beer bongs, air bags and revenge skits. After a while it does become more of the same. But bringing in the girls means however brings up themes of sexism which is refreshing, the film asks since when can only fraternities party in their houses?!
Efron has the most appealing arc and he is given a lot to play with - what happens after college when the parties are over? So, despite some replays from number 1, there are plenty of laughs to be had its just not as fresh. A good effort and let's face it, kind if the best comedy sequels in years, which in hindsight isn't actually saying much! 6/10
