Sisters (2015) REVIEW

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey star in this comedy about two 30 something sisters who learn that their parents have decided to move out of their childhood home. Fey plays Kate, who is an ex-party animal who still can't quite keep her life afloat. Her sister, Maura, played by Poehler, is the opposite. She was always a goody two shoes and is now in a secure job as a nurse. The girls may be opposites, but they are still close, and when they hear the news about the house - they decide to have one last huge party there. What ensues is a night of awkward run-ins with people from their past, reading old diaries, dance offs and some home truths about growing up (and accepting it).
Firstly, these two lead actresses together are just electric. The film itself is actually held together by their dynamic. The first half of the film is full of pretty funny moments, I laughed alot. The leads played against their usual types - Fey finally gets to let her hair down and mess up the place whereas Poehler gets to take a sweeter, more naive take on things.
So the jokes are there mostly, however some things just don't hit at all and I did feel the second half of the film began to loose the momentum the film had going for it, it was just to long (2 HOURS) it felt like a more condensed version would have proved snappier and kept our attention more.
Maya Rudolph is good as their stuck up frenemy in the time she has an John Leguizamo plays creepy ex-flame of Kate's very well. However some of the support are so flat they don't feel real - the married couple are particularly cringe worthy.
The look of the film is pretty fresh and glossy, I loved heir old bedroom that was a step into the 80's. The actual plot was mostly predictable and I guess the main issue is that the story didn't have as much heart as I think it wanted to, I couldn't help but crave to know more about the actual charters themselves.
Overall a fun, vodka fuelled comedy which has more hits than middies but begins to fizzle out like the party itself. Worth it for the crazy natural chemistry between the leads, a decent popcorn flick. 6.5/10
